What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is a document that guides the direction of a county, city, borough, or neighborhood for the next 10 years. It is a community-driven plan that contains Vision Statements, Goals, and Objectives for how that particular place should grow, improve, and govern itself. The overall document usually includes supporting data, such as maps, charts, and tables. Most importantly, a good Comprehensive Plan includes feasible recommendations and strategies to implement the Plan. Dormont's 2024 Comprehensive Plan will be based on what residents and business owners want to see in their borough. It will likely address issues such as traffic, infrastructure, business districts, housing, parks / open space, transit, parking, beautification, governance, and more.

Consultant Team

The Borough of Dormont has hired a consultant team to help create the Comprehensive Plan. The team includes 3 firms: rePLACE Urban Studio, Pashek + MTR, and CoUrbanize. The team's scope includes leading the public engagement process, conducting research, creating design studies (when needed), and collating data and community feedback into a Comprehensive Plan document.

rePLACE Urban Studio is a multidisciplinary design and planning practice with offices in New York City and Pittsburgh. They specialize in community-driven planning at a wide range of scope and size, from individual properties to entire cities.

 Pashek + MTR is an award-winning landscape architecture and community planning firm whose mission is to improve the environment and the communities they serve by connecting people with the natural world, and each other, through sustainable and equitable planning and design practices. 

CoUrbanize is an online community engagement platform. Since its founding in 2013, coUrbanize has helped more than 500 teams to delivery inclusive public outreach, have more productive conversations with communities, and ultimately build critical support for projects.
